What Happens in a Small Group Personal Training Session?

Boxing Training | Mr Deniz Ates

1. Warm-Up

We kick off with a lively warm-up. First, it's skipping - a brilliant way to get your heart rate up and sharpen coordination. Then, we move onto dynamic stretches: think leg swings and lunges to get your muscles and joints ready. This combo of cardio and stretching sets you up perfectly for the workout ahead, both physically and mentally.

2. Padwork

The padwork starts with the basics - simple punches and combinations. Gradually, as you grow more confident, we up the intensity and complexity. You'll learn advanced techniques and faster combinations, improving your speed, power, and accuracy. It's not just about the punches; this is a full-body workout that elevates your fitness and focus.

3. Alternate Circuit Training

In alternating rounds, I focus on padwork with one participant at a time, while the others tackle a circuit routine for diverse muscle groups and cardiovascular health. This structure provides individualized attention during padwork and group involvement during the circuit, ensuring the workout is both dynamic and inclusive.

4. Cool Down

The cool down is about bringing your heart rate down gently and stretching out your muscles. We'll go through a series of static stretches and relaxation techniques, focusing on muscle recovery and flexibility. This calming end to our session helps prevent soreness and prepares you mentally and physically for what's next in your day.

What is Padwork?

Padwork is a popular training method used by boxers and other combat sports athletes to improve their punching technique, hand-eye coordination, and reaction time. It involves a trainer holding padded gloves, called pads or focus mitts, and calling out punches and combinations for the athlete to perform. The trainer moves the pads to simulate an opponent and provides feedback on the accuracy and power of punches.

But padwork isn’t just for boxers. Anyone can benefit from the cardiovascular and coordination-boosting benefits. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or just starting on your fitness journey, padwork can be a safe and a thrilling way to get fit.

During a session, you will be constantly moving and reacting to the trainer’s combinations, improving your speed and power, while burning calories and strengthening your entire body. Because it can be modified for all fitness levels, padwork is a great option for anyone looking to mix up their workout routine.

Padwork is not just a great workout for your body. It is also a fantastic way to improve your mental focus. During a session, you will be required to concentrate and react quickly to the trainer’s instructions and combinations. This intense mental engagement can be a welcome distraction from the stresses of everyday life, helping you clear your mind and find a sense of calm.

It is also a great way to relieve stress and reduce anxiety. The physical exertion and endorphin release that comes from a vigorous workout can help to improve your mood and overall well-being.

The benefits go beyond the time you spend hitting the pads. The improved coordination, speed and power can carry over into other areas of your life, helping you feel more confident and capable in everything you do.

So if you want to add some variety to your fitness routine, give padwork a try. You will be amazed at the results and the fun you will have along the way.
