Mr Deniz Ates | Boxing Trainer | Mobile Personal Trainer

Deniz is a personal trainer in London specialized in boxing fitness. With a Master’s in Philosophy from The Open University, and a Bachelor’s in English Literature from Roehampton University, he brings a unique blend of education and experience to his work.

Deniz joined the fitness industry in 2012, starting as an assistant coach at his local boxing club before advancing as the head coach. He is certified by England Boxing, Boxing Awards, Hatton Academy, and Boxercise®. He is a personal trainer certified by Focus Awards and a member of The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), The European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS), The National Register of Personal Trainers (NRPT), and UK Coaching.

Over his career, Deniz has trained diverse groups - adults, teens, children, sports teams, and businesses - and has produced educational materials on physical and mental health. Notably, he authored a yoga teacher manual endorsed by Skills Active UK, and collaborated on teacher resources with SHAPES for Schools and The School of Life.

Working independently since 2021, Deniz continues helping people enjoy boxing as part of a healthy lifestyle. He hopes to make a positive difference in people’s lives through ongoing education, with aspirations for a PhD.

    Client Assessment and Programming:

    • Collecting and checking information relating to individual clients.

Questions

  • In 2005, I watched a boxing reality TV series, “The Contender”, hosted by Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard. I was inspired and joined my university boxing club.

    For the first two years of university, I dedicated myself to boxing training alongside my studies. However, as my final year approached, academic responsibilities took over, leading me to set boxing aside.

    After graduation, I resumed training at a local boxing club. Within a year, an opportunity arose to become a trainer. I volunteered and pursued certification under England Boxing. I became obsessed with improving my padwork. Once employed, I soon became the head coach.

    What started off as a hobby became my career. I consider myself lucky to have found a path in the fitness industry. I’m always grateful for the privilege of being part of someone’s personal and professional development. I’m excited to see what the future holds.

  • What I love most about coaching is the opportunity to make a positive difference to someone’s life. Witnessing the transformation from 'I can't do that' to 'I can do that' is a joy, knowing it can inspire greatness in other areas of life.

    I also love the continuous learning that coaching provides. Every person develops in their own unique way, making them not only learners but also teachers in their own right. This mutual learning process has been fundamental to my growth as a coach.

    Last but not least, I love solving problems that test my abilities, forcing me to use all my knowledge, skills and creativity. Just as learners perform best when their challenges and skills are balanced, coaches perform best under a balanced set of demands and capabilities.

  • What inspired me to start my own business was a mixture of tough times, acquired skills, and support from friends and family.

    The tough times were during the pandemic, when I found myself without a job. This forced me to reassess my situation in a period of uncertainty.

    My coaching skills were the result of many years of hard work. I was experienced in the fitness industry, specifically boxing fitness, having worked in a boxing gym since 2012. I also had research skills, having studied Philosophy and English Literature.

    The support from friends and family meant having a small network of advice, encouragement, and practical help, which was invaluable.

    Not wanting to rely on a gym, I thought: if anyone could work as a mobile trainer, I could! I had the right experience and skills to rebuild myself. So, in 2021, I did just that.
